The analysis reveals that Indian adults can be divided into 15 mutually exclusive groups on the basis of their nutritional status and individual and household characteristics which has implications not only for health policy and planning but also for productivity and economic growth. The problem of under nourished adults appears to be quite challenging in the poor and the poorest adults of the country living in households without a toilet whereas the problem of over weight and obesity among adults has been found to be largely confined to rich and the richest adults living in the urban areas.Competing Interest StatementThe authors have declared no competing interest.Funding StatementThere is no funding support.Author DeclarationsI confirm all relevant ethical guidelines have been followed, and any necessary IRB and/or ethics committee approvals have been obtained.YesThe details of the IRB/oversight body that provided approval or exemption for the research described are given below:The oversight body of the Institution has approved the study. All necessary patient/participant consent has been obtained and the appropriate institutional forms have been archived.YesI understand that all clinical trials and any other prospective interventional studies must be registered with an ICMJE-approved registry, such as ClinicalTrials.gov.
