Data from five leagues was used and compared to data from the normal population in each country. Our results revealed that the relative risk was higher in soccer players in three countries when correcting for the estimated true number of infected people in the populations. We discuss that the reason for the higher incidence in soccer players is caused by the virus entering a group of players that work closely together.Competing Interest StatementThe authors have declared no competing interest.Funding StatementNo funding was recievedAuthor DeclarationsI confirm all relevant ethical guidelines have been followed, and any necessary IRB and/or ethics committee approvals have been obtained.YesThe details of the IRB/oversight body that provided approval or exemption for the research described are given below:Videnskabsetisk Komite, Region Midtjylland, Danmark Ethics Committee, RM, DenmarkAll necessary patient/participant consent has been obtained and the appropriate institutional forms have been archived.YesI understand that all clinical trials and any other prospective interventional studies must be registered with an ICMJE-approved registry, such as ClinicalTrials.gov.
