TY - JOUR T1 - The unexpected 2020 October COVID-19 boost date in European countries correlated with the latitude, but not with the temperature JF - medRxiv DO - 10.1101/2020.10.28.20221176 SP - 2020.10.28.20221176 AU - Stephan Walrand Y1 - 2020/01/01 UR - http://medrxiv.org/content/early/2020/11/01/2020.10.28.20221176.abstract N2 - Many European countries underwent an unexpected spectacular boost of the daily reported new COVID-19 cases between September 20th and October 25th, imposing in emergency new confinement rules in order to prevent hospitals saturation. The present study shows no correlation between the country COVID-19 boost date and its 2 weeks preceding temperature, but shows an impressive correlation with the country latitude. As the daily UV insolation earlier decreases in autumn for higher latitudes, this is an additional observation supporting the impact of low vitamin blood D level on the respiratory impairment in COVID-19 disease.Competing Interest StatementThe authors have declared no competing interest.Funding StatementnoneAuthor DeclarationsI confirm all relevant ethical guidelines have been followed, and any necessary IRB and/or ethics committee approvals have been obtained.YesThe details of the IRB/oversight body that provided approval or exemption for the research described are given below:N/A all data used come from open databaseAll necessary patient/participant consent has been obtained and the appropriate institutional forms have been archived.YesI understand that all clinical trials and any other prospective interventional studies must be registered with an ICMJE-approved registry, such as ClinicalTrials.gov.
